I.             ADMINSTRATIVE ORGANIZATION

  1. Until further notice all administrative and policy making functions of this organization shall be under supervision of the Christian Basketball Youth Association (CBYA) Commissioner. It shall be the duty and responsibility of the Commissioner to designate the duties and responsibilities of the volunteer school coordinators. Any complaints or suggestions should be addressed to your school coordinator. If you are an independent team your complaints or suggestions should be addressed to the gym coordinator assigned to your team.

II.             DUTIES OF THE COMMISSIONER

  1. To approve the admission of teams and coaches into the association.
  2. To establish and enforce such rules of sportsmanship and ethical conduct of coaches, players, and fans as will further the purpose of the association.
  3. To provide and maintain playing courts for all scheduled practices and league games.
  4. To schedule all practices and league games.
  5. To serve as the judicial body for the association. As such judicial body, the commissioner shall have authority to suspend or remove permanently from the association any team, coach, or player who shall, in the opinion of the commissioner, be guilty of conduct prejudicial to the aims and purposes of the association.
  6. To provide each coach, prior to the team’s first league game, with a schedule showing date, starting time, and gym location for games to be played in the league.
  7. To take such action as it shall deem advisable and necessary in any situation not specifically hereafter provided for in these rules and regulations.

III.             LEAGUE ORGANIZATION

  1. This is a fundamental teaching basketball league designed to teach children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade the basic fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, defensive skills, rules, and good sportsmanship in a Christian atmosphere.
  2. The association shall consist of several leagues (divided by grade and gender) and by divisions (based on experience levels/abilities).
  3. The playing season shall be November through February of each year.
  4. Each team shall have at least 12 scheduled 1 hour practices on half court and play 10 scheduled games.
  5. $55.00 per player (minimum 8 players per team) for grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade and $65.00 per player (minimum 8 players per team) for grades 4th through 6th.
  6. If a team elects not to use any practice times at the Lighthouse or Santa Fe Family Life Center the fees are $40.00 per player (minimum 8 players per team) for grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The fees are $50.00 per player (minimum 8 players per team) for grades 4th through 6th.
  7. All checks are to be made payable to the gym you are practicing at which would be the Lighthouse, or Performance Sports Company if practicing at Santa Fe Family Life Center. If you are practicing at your own facility please make check payable to the Lighthouse for Kindergarten through 3rd grade and Performance Sports Company for grades 4th through 6th.
  8. Roster and fee are to be turned in together. Incomplete roster and fee will not be accepted by the commissioner therefore your team won’t be entered in the CBYA league! Turn your roster and fee to the facility that your checks are made payable too.
  9. Deadline to turn in roster and fee is the Friday before Thanksgiving.
  10. Gate admission is $3.00 for adults.
  11. All league games shall be played at the scheduled time and on the scheduled date at the scheduled gym as authorized by the commissioner. If a game is cancelled because of inclement weather, or other valid reason, the commissioner may at his discretion reschedule such game.
  12. It shall be the responsibility of each coach to see that his or her team appears for each of its scheduled league games. If a team is not able to play their schedule game, you may forfeit the game and pay a $50.00 forfeit fee or find a replacement team for that schedule game to play in your place or you may contact the opposing coach and if agreeable with him or her, you may work out a change with another schedule game. This usually involves getting their permission as well. You are responsible for letting the gym coordinator know at least 72 hours in advance of any change. All games must be played in the gyms in which they were originally schedule. If you initiate a change and for any reason there is an “open slot” (a game time where no game is played) you are responsible for the $50.00 forfeit fee.
  13. Forfeit Fee of $50.00 is charged when your team does not show up for a game, or your team shows up more than 10 minutes late or if you initiate any change that results in an open slot.
  14. The Christian Basketball Youth Association provides no insurance of any type for coaches or players injuries.

IV.            SPORTSMANSHIP

  1. It will be considered unethical conduct for a coach to prevent a badly beaten team from scoring.
  2. A player, who due to his/her actions, has been ejected from a game by a referee, may sit on the bench for the rest of the game provided that he/she causes no disturbances. The player is however automatically suspended from playing in his team’s next league game.
  3. A coach who has been ejected from the game must leave the gym and will be suspended from the next league game.
  4. A fan may be ejected from the gym at any time if warranted, by referees and/or personnel responsible for the gym.
  5. Continuous unsportsmanlike conduct of coaches, players or fans before, during or after any games will be cause for disbarment from the league.

V.             TEAM ROSTERS AND PLAYER PARTICIPATION RULES

  1. Before game schedules are handed out, each coach shall present to the gym coordinator their team official roster sheet.
  2. No team shall have a roster of more than 12 players, and not less than 8 players, unless approved by the CBYA commissioner. The commissioner must approve any change in the player roster.
  3. Any additional players added after the team roster is submitted to the gym coordinator assigned to that team along with player fee. Players can be added to teams up to January 10th.
  4. All players must play equally if suited up and eligible for participation.
  5. Every year we get many calls from parents trying to find teams for their kids. If you have less than 10 players on your roster beware that you may have to take another player. A team may refuse to accept any player ask by the Commissioner to be added to their roster. Refusal of a call-in-player from that team can be accessed a $50.00 penalty.
  6. Medals will be awarded to the players for their participation in the CBYA. Coaches must pick those medals up at their Home Facility from the gym coordinator.

VI.            SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Please note that there are three (3) gym sites for the CBYA. Review your schedule for correct game date and time, gym facility, assigned court and opponent.
  2. Each team is responsible for their uniforms. Please make jerseys reversible if possible.
  3. Please notify all parents the game admission is $3.00 for adults. There will be two coach’s passes and 1 volunteer for running the clock per team issued.
  4. Please do not bounce basketballs in the main entrance of the gyms.
  5. Gyms will open 20 minutes before the first scheduled game time. Please notify players and parents not to arrive any earlier than 20 minutes prior to the first scheduled game time.
  6. Check your schedule for multiple games on a weekend. Some teams may play two games during a given weekend. There are several instances where a team plays twice on Saturday or Sunday. Questions, call your gym coordinator.
  7. Games will be played unless notified of cancellation by the Gym Coordinator or Commissioner.
  8. If bad weather arrives only the coach should contact the gym to see if play will be suspended. It is the coach’s responsibility to contact their players on all bad weather cancellations.
  9. All reschedule games are at the Commissioners discretion and confirmed with the gym coordinators.
